As someone who regularly enjoys karaoke in Japan,
I honestly miss the comfortable, familiar Japanese karaoke experience when I’m abroad.
So during our trip to Malaysia, I was excited to discover… Karaoke Manekineko!
In Japan, Manekineko is a super popular karaoke chain known for being affordable yet high-quality.
And surprisingly, Malaysia has multiple Manekineko branches too!
In this article, I’ll share my honest experience visiting the Manekineko in Kuala Lumpur —
including the rooms, song selection, machine quality, drink bar, and pricing.
If you love Japanese karaoke, this place is a must-visit while in Malaysia.
🇯🇵 **What is Manekineko?
Why do Japanese people love it?
Manekineko (まねきねこ) is one of Japan’s most famous karaoke chains,
with more than 685 branches across the country (as of September 2025).
It’s beloved because:
- It’s affordable
- Rooms are clean and comfortable
- Song selection is huge (J-pop, K-pop, English, Chinese)
- Unlimited drink bar
- Simple, intuitive machine interface
Malaysia even has around 15 branches,
so you will spot them frequently when traveling around Kuala Lumpur.
🎤 Inside Manekineko Malaysia — Room Tour
We visited the branch inside Sunway Velocity Mall.
The room was colorful, bright, and spacious enough for our family.
The sofa had some signs of age,
but overall the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable.
A big surprise —
you can choose and reserve songs directly from your smartphone.
Just connect to the room Wi-Fi, scan the QR code, and you’re ready to go.
YOASOBI’s “Yoru ni Kakeru (Racing Into the Night)” was even ranking on the popular list!
🎶 Song Selection — Lots of Japanese Songs!
The selection was better than expected.
They had tons of J-pop (both new and old), plus English, Chinese, and Korean hits.
My husband chose “Dry Flower” by Yuuri — which made me laugh.
Sometimes a few songs had guide vocals,
but honestly, it didn’t ruin the experience.
It was still fun and felt very nostalgic.
🥤 Drink Bar — Free and Included
Just like in Japan, the drink bar was fully included in the room charge.
Soft drinks, flavored sodas, and even small Japanese-style snacks were available.
This part really reminded me of Japanese karaoke culture and made me happy.
💰 Pricing — Surprisingly Cheap
We chose the 3-hour package.
The total was RM 92.05 for three people
(though the receipt labeled us as “3 adults,” even though my son is 12).
That comes to around 3,200 yen,
or roughly 1,000 yen per person (around USD $6–7) for 3 hours.
For this level of quality at this price,
it felt incredibly reasonable — especially compared to Japan or other countries.
📝 Summary — If You Love Japanese Karaoke, You’ll Love This Place
I honestly didn’t expect to enjoy such a genuine Japanese-style karaoke experience in Malaysia.
The room was fun, the machines were easy to use, the sound system was fine,
and the free drink bar was a nostalgic bonus.
